Get ready for your first day of class as a Global Launch student

Navigating your first day at ASU’s Global Launch: from campus prep to classroom etiquette

It’s finally here! You have been waiting so long for this day to arrive —your first day of Global Launch classes at ASU! You might be nervous about what will happen, who you will meet and what you should do. A lot of amazing things will happen on this day. It will all go smoothly if you come to campus prepared. Follow these tips to help ensure that your first day is a great day:

Before the first day of class:

  • 1 or 2 days before classes begin, start planning your commute to campus. Know how to get to campus from your home. Know where to park or get off of public transportation.
  • Know which buildings you need to go to for your classes. Go to each building and find each classroom. Get a good idea of how much time you need to walk between each building.
  • Create a daily schedule for yourself and save it in your phone calendar. For each class, include the days and times, along with a map link.

On the first day of class:

  • Arrive early: set a goal to be 5-10 minutes early for each class.
  • Walk into the classroom with a smile: The simple act of smiling helps you to relax.
  • Greet your classmates and instructor: they will know that you are friendly and looking to make new friends.
  • Find a seat closer to the board than to the door: This shows the instructor that you are ready to learn and it shows your classmates that you are ready to make friends.
  • Be present: put your cell phone on silent and get ready to meet your new classmates.

What to bring:

Bring your backpack with the necessary supplies:

  • Laptop, power cord and adapter
  • Cell phone and power cord
  • Notebook, folder
  • Writing utensils inside of a nice pencil case: pens, pencils, pencil sharpener, eraser, highlighters, correction fluid
  • Wallet with student ID, credit card and money for lunch and the ASU bookstore
  • A refillable water bottle
  • One or two snacks to get you through your classes
