Online Immersion: Common Questions

Program details

If you want to change from Online Immersion to the Campus Immersion program, please email [email protected] at least one month before you wish to change.

Because both programs offer the same learning outcomes, you can switch easily between Online Immersion and Campus Immersion. Your advisor will help you follow U.S. Immigration requirements.

You must have daily access to a computer or laptop, a strong internet connection, and a functioning microphone, speaker and camera. You will be required to attend Zoom classes and to participate with camera on.

Yes. The Online Immersion program includes weekly real-time interaction with the teacher and classmates, plus 7-10 hours a week of self-study exercises assigned by the teacher. You can also meet the teacher during office hours and receive personalized support from a tutor. 

Attendance and participation in class are an important part of the learning process. If you do not attend class, you will not learn the skills necessary to move to the next level. Absences and missed class time will negatively impact course grades.

Tuition and fees

Tuition and fees cover the cost of the program and services:

  • Live group classes
  • All course materials
  • No additional fees for textbooks
  • Tutoring
  • Advising with personalized Success Coaches
  • Virtual welcome / help desk
  • Access to ASU online library collections
  • Tuition and fees are required and cannot be waived or reduced

Tuition and fees will be charged to your MyASU account. You will be able to access this account after you register for classes. You can then pay by credit card or bank transfer, all online.

Program comparisons

In the Online Immersion program, you will have a class schedule, a live class experience, a teacher to speak with and other students learning with you. When you complete the courses you will have gained new English skills. These courses meet ASU’s language proficiency requirement.

In Online Self-Paced English courses, you will study as your schedule allows and submit your online coursework as assigned. When you complete each course, you will have gained new English skills. These courses offer a certificate of completion, but do not meet ASU’s language proficiency requirement.

Students

Yes, you can participate in the Online Immersion program outside the U.S. 

Yes, you can participate from inside the U.S. Global Launch does not provide documentation of study-eligible status (I-20) for the online immersion program.

Students on F-1 visas are required to study full-time in in-person classes. Any additional study online must be done in addition to maintaining full-time, in-person attendance in their program.

Online Immersion applicants must be at least 16 years old. No parental consent or high school graduation required. View How to Apply for more information.

Students in Online Immersion complete an English level by passing two courses in an 8-week session.
