5 Lessons Learned by Advanced English students

As another session of Global Launch’s English Language Program concludes, our students have the opportunity to showcase their hard work through the final project presentations, known as “Poster Sessions.” This capstone project is a key component of our most advanced English course, challenging students to collaborate in groups, conduct research, write academic papers, and present their findings to peers.

Below are some inspiring quotes from our students about their experiences presenting their final projects.

Collaborate across Cultures

Gabriel from Indonesia found that working with peers from different countries opened new doors for collaboration.

I think we can learn from this presentation how to collaborate with other people. Because I think we have different countries, but somehow we can work together and we can provide this presentation.

Work with a Team

Martina from Argentina experienced the initial nerves of presenting, but soon found the joy and support of her classmates through teamwork.

We were so nervous at the beginning, the first time [presenting] was so complicated to us, but the second was so much easier. I think that something that we learned is how to work on team and more with this incredible team, the work was so easy and so entertaining to do. In my experience I loved working with [my team], it was amazing.

Overcome Self-Doubt

Eunjin from South Korea initially questioned her ability to succeed in the poster session. However, with guidance of her English teacher and classmates, she discovered a newfound sense of pride and accomplishment.

At first, I didn’t think I can finish this poster session well. After I finished this presentation, first I was so proud of me. And because I did presentation with two friends, I think I did well.

Develop Analytical Skills

Kyoka from Japan delved into the complexities of her project’s survey, finding it to be a challenging yet rewarding experience. Through critical thinking and analysis, she uncovered unexpected results that not only surprised her but also provided valuable insights into the business world.

I think a lot about this survey and I deeply analyzed this survey, it was so hard, but I think it was so good for me because the result was not what I expected, so I was surprised and I can learn about the business.

Prepare for ASU degree programs

Juan from Panama recognized the direct relevance of the final project to his future studies. He believes that the skills gained through the Poster Session experience will be invaluable in his academic journey.

We feel that it’s going to be something that can be helpful for our degrees, specifically aerospace engineering and pre-med. So we feel that it’s something really interesting that we recommend. Even if people feel nervous before it, if you know about what you’re talking about, you’re going to be good.

These reflections highlight the transformative impact of presenting final projects in preparing for the university classroom. By collaborating, overcoming challenges, and gaining new insights, Global Launch students grow both academically and personally. Their experiences underscore the importance of teamwork, perseverance, and a commitment to lifelong learning in achieving success.

Global Launch at Arizona State University offers multiple opportunities for international students to demonstrate their English proficiency for ASU admission without a TOEFL test.
