What is Online Immersion?

The Online Immersion English Language Program from Global Launch at Arizona State University (ASU) is the first university-designed, fully online English language program that helps international students learn English and improve their language skills from anywhere in the world.

Through live, interactive classes, students will build academic English proficiency, strengthen speaking, listening, reading and writing skills, and prepare for university admission and professional success.

Program details

There are 6 total levels in the Online Immersion English Language Program. 

Each level lasts eight weeks (2 basic, 2 intermediate, 2 advanced). If your English level is more advanced, you will need to take fewer sessions; if your skills are more basic, you will need to take more sessions.

After you enroll in the program, you will take the official placement exam to determine what level you are placed into that matches your language ability.

  • You may take our free online English placement test now to get an idea of where you may start in the program.

When you complete the highest level of the Global Launch English language program with a passing grade of B- (80%) or better, you will receive a certificate of completion that will satisfy the English language requirement for admission to Arizona State University.

Eligibility

The Global Launch Online Immersion English Language Program is designed for learners at any skill level, anywhere.

 

Online Immersion Requirements:

  • Applicants under the age of 16 years require parental consent or proof of high school graduation.
  • Applicants are not required to take the TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or any other English proficiency exam for admission into the Global Launch Online Immersion English Language Program.

Learners must provide their own:

  • Laptop or tablet device (with a camera and microphone)
  • Access to a strong internet connection

You will experience live instruction, interactive activities, and personalized support help learners at all levels strengthen their English skills in an engaging digital environment with others from around the world.

  • Live classes: 3 hours per week of live online sessions with instructors and classmates to practice speaking, listening, reading and writing.
  • Guided self-study: 7–10 hours per week of independent study with exercises and activities that reinforce classroom learning.
  • Homework and practice: weekly assignments to review lessons and steadily strengthen your English skills.
  • Instructor feedback: ongoing teacher feedback plus access to advising and support services throughout the program.

You will gain confidence to communicate in social and academic settings, participate in group projects, write academic papers and give university-level presentations.

You will learn or improve the following English skills:

  • Speaking: participate in discussions and deliver presentations.
  • Listening: understand lectures, conversations and media.
  • Reading: comprehend academic and everyday texts.
  • Writing: create essays, reports and emails.
  • Grammar and Vocabulary: communicate clearly, accurately and confidently.
